Reiki is a Japanese technique developed in the early 20th century and use for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive.

The intention is to activate the natural healing processes of the patient’s body and restore physical and emotional well-being. Reiki practitioners at Brampton Massage Therapy uses a technique called palm healing or hands-on healing through which a “universal energy” is said to be transferred through the palms of the practitioner to the patient in order to encourage emotional or physical healing.

If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Reiki Master:

In the tradition of Reiki, a Reiki master is a person who has completed the highest level of training in the Reiki system and has been initiated as a teacher of Reiki. A Reiki master is qualified to teach others the techniques of Reiki and initiate them into the Reiki system through a process called an “attunement.”

The requirements for becoming a Reiki master vary depending on the tradition and lineage of the individual practitioner. Some Reiki masters may have completed a specific course of study and received a certificate or diploma, while others may have learned through an apprenticeship or self-study.

Reiki Techniques:

There are various techniques used in the practice of Reiki, but the most common technique involves the practitioner placing their hands on or near the patient’s body in a series of hand positions. These hand positions are thought to correspond to energy centers in the body known as chakras.

During a Reiki session, the practitioner may use a gentle touch or hover their hands over the patient’s body, with the intention of channeling energy into the patient to promote healing. The patient is usually fully clothed and is asked to lie down on a table or sit in a comfortable chair. The practitioner may also work on the patient while they are standing or seated.

Other techniques used in Reiki may include the use of crystals, essential oils, or other tools to enhance the healing process. Some practitioners may also use visualization, affirmations, or other techniques to support the patient’s healing.
